AWS + Claude: The Hottest Skill Combo in Cloud Right Now
6 certification pathways mapped by role
Hey, Prasad here 👋 I’m the voice behind the weekly newsletter “Big Tech Careers.”
In this week’s article, I cover the 6 certification pathways for hottest skill combo (AWS + Claude) mapped by role.

AWS + Claude is turning into one of the fastest-growing skill combinations in cloud right now.
I covered the 4 new Claude certifications in my last edition, breaking down the exam domains and formats. This time I want to go one layer deeper: how to pair each Claude certification with the right AWS certification, so you end up with a combination that actually signals something to a hiring manager, rather than two unrelated badges on a LinkedIn profile.
As a reminder, here’s the full Claude lineup:
Claude Certified Associate – Foundations
Claude Certified Developer – Foundations
Claude Certified Architect – Foundations
Claude Certified Architect – Professional
There’s something here for pretty much every role touching cloud and AI: sales, marketing, PM, engineering, solutions architecture, ML, and DevOps. The trick is not collecting all four. It’s pairing the one that matches your role with the AWS certification that already validates the cloud fundamentals underneath it.
The 6 pathways
1. Sales, marketing, PM - AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner + Claude Certified Associate – Foundations
This is the lightest pairing and it’s intentional. Cloud Practitioner gives you enough AWS fluency to speak the same language as engineering, and Associate – Foundations validates that you can apply Claude to real business workflows without needing to write code. If your job is closer to positioning, scoping, or running a project than building the system itself, this is your lane.
2. Software engineers, developers - AWS Certified Developer – Associate + Claude Certified Developer – Foundations
This is the builder pairing. AWS Developer – Associate proves you can work with core AWS services in code, and Claude Developer – Foundations proves you can do the same with the Claude API, Claude Code, and MCP. Together they cover the two things most engineering teams actually need right now: someone who can ship on AWS infrastructure and integrate Claude into the application layer.
3. Solutions Architect AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate + Claude Certified Architect – Foundations
This is the pairing I hold. AWS SA – Associate is still the anchor credential for architecture roles, and Architect – Foundations layers on the Claude-specific piece: agentic architecture, tool and MCP design, Claude Code workflows, and reliability patterns. If you’re the person designing how a system is put together rather than just building one piece of it, this is your combination.
4. Senior/Principal Solutions Architect - AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional + Claude Certified Architect – Professional
The step up. AWS SA – Professional already assumes you’re operating at enterprise scale, across multi-account environments, cost optimization, and complex migrations. Architect – Professional mirrors that at the Claude layer, covering RAG pipeline design, multi-agent orchestration, governance, and stakeholder communication. This is the pairing for architects who own the full lifecycle of a solution, not just a component of it.
5. Machine Learning / AI Engineer - AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer – Associate + Claude Certified Developer – Foundations
A slightly less obvious pairing, but it makes sense once you think about what ML engineers actually do day to day. The AWS ML Engineer cert covers the traditional ML pipeline (data, training, deployment), while Claude Developer – Foundations covers the generative AI application layer: agents, tool use, and integration. Most ML engineers today are being asked to do both, so this pairing covers the full stack rather than doubling up on architecture.
6. DevOps Engineer AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate + Claude Certified Architect – Foundations
This one surprises people until you look at what’s actually in the Architect – Foundations exam. A meaningful chunk of it is Claude Code configuration and workflows: CI/CD integration, batch processing, hooks, and automation patterns. That overlaps directly with what a DevOps or CloudOps engineer already owns, which makes Architect – Foundations a better fit here than Developer – Foundations.
Why pair them at all
A Claude certification on its own tells an employer you understand one vendor’s product. An AWS certification on its own tells them you understand cloud infrastructure. Paired together, they tell a more specific and more valuable story: that you can take a Claude-powered application and actually run it in a real AWS environment, with the security, cost, and operational considerations that come with that.
That combination is still rare. Most people are certified in one or the other, not both. Early in a credential market, being one of the few people who can show both sides of that story tends to carry more weight than it will once everyone catches up.
One important caveat
These Claude certifications are currently only available to Anthropic partners, so access depends on your organization’s partner status rather than being open to everyone individually right now. If you’re not sure whether your company qualifies, that’s worth checking before you plan a study timeline around it.
Which pairing matches where you sit today?
If you’re an enterprise or a company looking to get your employees enabled on Claude, I run a custom corporate training program called Enterprise AI Solutions Architecture with Claude, built for teams who want to move past experimentation and actually deploy Claude in production, AWS and all. Reply to this email or reach out at info@bigtechcareers.com and we can talk through what that could look like for your team.
If this was useful, consider giving it a repost so it reaches someone else mapping out their next certification.
